Lifecast is a unique way to capture the little one’s hand and feet into a keepsake. WP Creations does a great job at doing this. I did the life casts for both my kids and absolutely loved it! The process is quick and simple with an awe-inspiring end product to look and mesmerize forever.
Casting Appointment Process:
- Firstly, the artist checks the baby’s hand/foot for any lints and cleans the palm/sole to prepare for creating the moulds.
- They help you position the baby in your arms or lap securely for best results.
- Next, they prepare the moulding material. The powdered material is mixed with water minutes before the casts are taken. This is because the material sets/hardens within minutes after being prepared.
- After mixing the moulding material for a few seconds in a bag, it is poured into the casting container.
- Then comes the fun part! This is when, the artist takes the baby’s hand/foot to cast and dip it in the container a few times then finally hold still until the mould is set (this typically takes about 2 minutes).
- Once the cast has set, the hand/foot is gently pulled out.

Post-Appointment Process:
- The artist pours the cast with finishing material and curates it to get the cast out of the mould.
- The casts are sanded, cleaned and dried for a few weeks before being painted!
Display Options:
- The casts can be purchased as is.
- Other options include mounting them on a stone or framing them. More details on framing the casts can be found here.
Price & Timelines:
-
The price of a single cast starts at $75. It increases with the age of the child/youth and adult.
- The timeline for the finished product is anywhere between 4-16 weeks depending on the finishing such as an unmounted cast or framed product.
Tips:
- It is recommended to wait at least until the baby is two months old as by this age the hand and feet have formed well and are easier to work with.
- For younger babies nursing, offering a pacifier or even sleeping does the trick to capture the casts quickly!
- Avoid wearing your favorite branded clothing as the process sometimes gets messy. The moulding material may stain the clothing, so best to wear house clothes to appointments.
This keepsake will capture your little one’s hand or feet at that moment in time. It is the most unique keepsake as your little one will never be that little again!!
