Father’s Day DIY Hand & Foot Print Ideas

The year 2020 has been a roller coaster ride for everyone around the world. However, this shouldn’t stop us from celebrating Father’s Day and recognize the love and courage this super hero spreads around.

Here are some DIY Card/Gift ideas for Dad, Daddy, Papa, Pa or any name your kids call him by!

Balloon Love – Thumb Paint Balloon Bouquet:

You will need:

  1. Canvas or paper 4×6 
  2. Different colors of Finger paint/ Other paint (washable or acrylic)
  3. Markers (washable or regular)

Instructions:

  • First, take a thumb print of the father at the centre closer to the bottom of the canvas/paper
  • Next, take a thumb print of the baby/toddler/kids
  • Leave about 1 cm space blank above the two thumb prints
  • Now using different colors, make thumb prints of your child leave a distance of approximately 0.2 cm from each other
  • Let it dry
  • Now using the markers, draw eyes, fair and smiley face on the two thumbs; draw arms too
  • Draw one arm for the child facing upward
  • Connect all the other thumb prints by drawing a string to make it look like balloon bouquet and bind them all together in child’s hand

“Big Daddy & Little Me” – Thumb Paint Frame

You will need:

  1. Different colors of Finger paint/ Other paint (washable or acrylic)
  2. Markers (washable or regular)

Instructions:

  • First, take a thumb print of the father at the centre closer to the bottom of the canvas/paper
  • Next, take a thumb print of the baby/toddler/kids
  • Let it dry
  • Now using the markers, draw eyes, hair and smiley face on the two thumbs; draw arms in a way that they are holding hands
  • You may write “Happy Father’s Day”, “Best Daddy Ever”, “Never Leave My Hand Daddy, Because I want to Be Like You” or any other special message
  • This could be done for a Father’s Day card or you can Frame it too

Foot Print Lions (Daddy and Child)

You will need:

  1. Canvas 10×10 or A4 size paper
  2. Yellow, Orange, Brown, Green and Blue Finger paint/ Other paint (washable or acrylic)
  3. Markers (washable or regular)

Instructions:

  • Begin with mixing the Yellow and Orange colors in a plate to make yellowish-orange color to look like Lion
  • Next, get both daddy and child to make their foot impression on the canvas with toes facing towards the bottom of the canvas (leave some space below for grass) (If you are trying with more than one child, daddy could be in the centre and kids on either sides)
  • Once dry, using Brown color, make the manes (hair around their neck) with finger or thumb prints
  • Make Green color thumb prints at the bottom of the canvas for grass
  • Using Blue color and thumb printing again, make the sky
  • Once dry, make a tail using Brown paint and make a finger print (paint your finger and leave the print on canvas)
  • Draw eyes, nose, face and whiskers on both the Lions  
  • Lastly, write a message such as “Happy Father’s Day”, “My Daddy Strongest”, “My Daddy Rules” or your favorite quote from Lion King movie

Leg Print – Daddy’s Little Monkey

You will need:

  1. Canvas 10×10 or A4 size paper
  2. Brown Finger paint/ Other paint (washable or acrylic)
  3. Markers (washable or regular), crayons and pencil colors

Instructions:

  • Draw a big tree in the centre of the canvas or paper, be sure to make a thick trunk and heavy branches, crayons or pencil colors work best on paper; markers and paint are preferred on the canvas
  • Next, dip your child’s feet in brown paint; toes facing downwards to the trunk take the print on the sides of the branches closer to the trunk; let it dry
  • Now draw the face, ears and tail tied to the branch as if it were hanging on the tree
  • Finally, write your message such as “Daddy’s Little Monkey”,  “Daddy’s Monkey at Play” or “Monkeying Around”
